SMASH 2020 is only about 10 days away, and due to all the restrictions and uncertainty around COVID-19 SMASH will be a very different experience than in years past. In this episode of Off Your Rocker: A SeniorVu Podcast, SMASH Founder and Managing Director, Bailey Beeken shares with host Valissa Smith, Senior Vice President of SeniorVu how her team mapped out the UX (user experience) for both the solution partners and the community providers participating this year. She talks about how the conference evolved from an in-person event with the typical 3-day face-to-face speakers, workshops and networking to a hybrid event and then eventually set as an exclusively virtual conference.
Back in January, after receiving feedback from attendees of the 2019 conference and before COVID-19 hit SMASH producers were all set with a list of exciting speakers and content for their typical gathering at Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas. When SMASH opens on Monday, October 19 it will now be a five-day event with half-day sessions every day all taking place online through a virtual setting.
With this new territory, Bailey and her team at SMASH signed up for other virtual events to best understand the experience they needed and wanted to provide under these unusual conditions. No one in any industry had mastered the virtual event conference experience since it is such new territory. The fact that SMASH was still months away when COVID-19 shutdown the country meant Bailey and her team had the advantage of time (which Bailey acknowledges many other conferences didn’t have that luxury.)
Listen in to this podcast to hear about plans for SMASH 2021 and hear Bailey Beeken’s answer to Valissa’s question: “If you could have lunch with any senior living or passed who would that be and why?” Bailey’s heartfelt answer is a great one!
