In this episode of Off Your Rocker, we invited James Merson to join us. James is the Chief Customer Officer at Caresmartz, Inc. which is a technology platform built to support the in-home care industry. It was founded about 10 years ago and its primary focus is on providing software to home care agencies which helps them manage their staff and their clients more efficiently.
The platform helps home care agencies schedule staffing, handle staff payroll, bill vendors and families for services, track clients through the CRM or Customer Relationship Management tool, and it helps handle new applicants when they are trying to fill open job positions. The home care agency staff works with residents whether they are living in a private home or in a senior living community. They provide seniors with non-medical services that are not reimbursed by medical insurance.
James and I decided to spend our time talking about the value of home care agencies, their purpose in a family’s journey seeking care for a loved one, and the best way of managing our later years of life which frankly is something most of us aren’t doing a very good job of. James spoke of the need for a holistic approach. His belief if that we certainly need a bio-psycho-social assessment in our older years but we need so much more than that leading up to it. Financial planning we seem to have down as a society and we’re even pretty good getting legal documents in order but beyond that we don’t often stop to consider care options until a life event hits us in the face. We don’t think through home care or community living until then either.
