Jackie Halbin is the Living Well Manager at Lakeview Village Retirement Community in Lenexa, Kansas and heads the team of many staff and residents to fulfill the dimensions of wellness of which there are many: emotional, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, vocational and environmental. Jackie found that when a holistic approach is taken with wellness it becomes less about the amenities of a community and becomes more of a mindset of a community and that’s where the magic happens.
Her advice to other community brands is to first get their heads wrapped around the idea that a gym or a pool or a chapel service or art class is only connected to wellness when it’s part of a bigger experience for residents. Jackie talks about the time and steps she and a group of residents took to shift the way everyone at Lakeview Village, including the staff, thought about those individual experiences and how to connect them to being a healthier person.
Lynn Tenbrink, Director of Marketing and Sales at Lakeview Village talks about what prospects are looking for today and how the wellness mentality may help to diffuse the stigma seniors and families may affiliate with senior living. She talked about how Lakeview Village encourages well-rounded living that nurtures the mind, body and spirit of each individual which is a much more thoughtful conversation with prospects than showing them a list of things to do and areas of their campus. When potential new residents understand that their community’s focus is on the needs of their resident living a fulfilling lifestyle, their eyes open and it becomes a completely different conversation. It tells families that there is a unique level of care at their community.
