Got Texts? Break Through the Clutter One Send At A Time

Breaking through the clutter of the zillions (that’s a technical number) of marketing messages we receive each day is essential for – oh, hold on, wait…we just got a text.

Sorry about that! As we were saying, we are inundated by countless marketing messages every day, which means that finding an effective way to reach your leads is – wait, I need to check this text…

Okay, we admit that’s a little heavy-handed. But how many of you reading this will reach for your phone as soon as you hear that little chime or feel that little buzz? Raise your hands. It’s okay, we’re raising our hands over here, too.

There’s something about the immediacy of a text message that has all of us at least glancing at our screens to find out what’s up. Don’t just take our word for it – there’s actual scientific and measurable data to back us up. Research shows that text messages get opened at a rate as high as 98%. That’s a heck of a high open rate, especially when you compare it to the fact that just 20% of emails get opened (and that’s on a good day). Plus, 75 percent of people are at least willing to receive text messages from companies – so it’s a small wonder that 65 percent of businesses these days say that text messaging is an incredibly effective method for them.

Now, we know there’s that whole stigma out there about older people not being able to do technology. But since seniors are actually some of the fastest adaptors of smart phones (and other things like Facebook and social media apps), it makes sense that texting should be part of your messaging strategy. It’s a great, effective way to reach your audience in a way that actually gets them to look at what they’re sending – and it’s particularly useful for the adult children of seniors, who are even more likely to be glued to their phones.

Here are just some examples of how you could use text messaging to beef up your lead generation and nurturing strategy:

● Send a text to confirm the details of a scheduled tour, as well as regular updates leading up to the tour
● Push to your Facebook page or website when you’ve updated a blog post or have important information to share
● Use it as a tool to communicate quickly with prospects to answer questions, provide information and stay in touch

This doesn’t mean that having an effective email strategy isn’t important. Far from it! Text messaging by itself isn’t the most effective way to get your information into the hands of your prospects. For one thing, text messages are limited on characters. It is, however, a great “add on” to your current marketing strategy because it’s yet another avenue where you can catch your prospects’ attention and keep your community top-of-mind. You’ll still want to have a robust email campaign to connect with your prospects, nurture them through the pipeline and send information in a more easily-digestible way. But let’s face it…if you want their attention NOW, the way to do it is thru a text message. Getting really, really good at it creates value for you and your family prospects.
